What to pack??

I wake up every morning between 6 and 8 and I'm not sure why. Maybe, it because subconsciously I'm trying to maximize my time. I am ready to step out of my American life to experience a new culture, but what do I pack for a year? This question has been rattling around in my Brain for a long time. Maybe I should bring underwear and socks and leave it at that. Amy had a great idea she said I should create a working list of things I use on a daily basis. Well, I did and here's my packing list so far:
Luggage ( a little joke because I don't have mines yet)
Clothes ( including socks, I always forget to pack socks)
My bible ( it's a cool journal one chuck gave me)
Hair stuff
Journal
and that's all I have so far.
I plan to have a separate suitcase for gifts. Here are some gifts I have so far:
Minnesota Wild hats
Minnesota Shirts
Minnesota book
Spam key chain
Agates (that have holes in them so I'm going to make in into jewelry)
Taylors Falls book marks and pictures for my host family ( Their daughter will be in TF while I'm in JP)
Cd's
winter carnival buttons
and some homemade jam I made while in St.Croix Falls WI.
I'm still looking for gifts so if anyone has any idea's let me know. I'd like to be well prepared for the many people I will meet!

About this blog

Flying roots is an expression I came up with personally. I am a girl deeply rooted in her community, family, values and faith about to take off for an adventure of a life time.
If you do not know me let me introduce myself. My name is Jessany. I am a seventeen years young. I like to explore and try new things. In my spare time I enjoy cooking/baking, spending time in my church youth group and doing other teenager stuff. I've graduated from high school a year early.
I plan to put this extra year to good use as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student!! The Idea of being an exchange student sounds pretty surreal, but there are great programs out there like Rotary International (www.rotary.org).
This will be the most challenging year of my life so far. I can not pretend that I am completely prepared for the obstacles that will come my way, but I know that that's OK. I have received a lot of support from many like: the St.Paul Rotary Club, Youth Exchange Committee, District 5950/5960, Amy (my Japanese coach), Ann (my liaison), teachers, my church, chuck (youth pastor), friends, family, Drew (my boyfriend of 1 year), my mom, and many more. It takes many volunteers to send one person around the world for one year. Can you imagine thousands of students going around the world every year?
Well my departure date is August 16th 2010 and I'm as ready as a Minnesota girl can be. I know where ever I go my roots will follow so............ LET ME FLY!!!
